YouTube # 15

Made a short video (super, super short) just to keep up with my skating and taping and editing fixation that is going strong. I started using the GoPro in December when I realized...

"Hey, it's cold, but not snowing - SKATE!".

As the days of December have rolled into January, I am still more than happy that I can lace up my kicks and enjoy this wonderful (unusually odd for the area) weather. Yesterday I got to skate with four other girls that came to work on their roller skating (minimum skills) for roller derby. I shot more footage than just what I did for this video, but I think I will save all of the shots and use them in a little while when I have more examples to pull from (and camera angles). The boyfriend mentioned getting a better editing software program (using the iMovie on the MacBook right now), that would be rad (I haven't even figured this one out yet!).

Any way, I sure do hope every one in an unseasonable area is using this wonderful weather to their advantage. Coach Pauly once told us in one of his clinics "If your more experienced girls aren't mentoring your new girls, your team is loosing out".

New Years Roller Skate - YouTube #13

It's New Years Day, the white wet fluff that the ski resorts so look forward to has failed to show up, and, may not for a long while. I thought I was lucky to still be roller skating outside in December, but it sure looks like January will allow me to continue playing in the fresh mountain air. I will be taking full advantage of this weather, probably setting my own little local record - rollerskating into the wintry months that have not been free of precipitation since the 1800's. I feel pretty lucky to be having this endless fall.

National Roller Skating Month, Happening RIGHT NOW!

OCTOBER 2011

Did you skate on the weekends while growing up?

Have you ever wanted to learn a new activity that is low impact on you knees?

This is the month to go skate! When the weather starts to change from summer to winter it is the best time to get out to your local rink and learn to skate, it is also that time of year to enter the world of FRESH MEAT at your local roller derby team, or even start learning about the world ofWoman's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) as a referee!

Bushing Oh My

Remember the (ghetto) sonic cruisers I used to ride? Well, I tore them all apart. It was great to use them as a training tool. I highly recommend using a training pair if you have never done the tear down (put back together) and have a pair of skates you are needing to have for practice anytime soon. Once I pulled out the bearings, I realized that not only were they full of hair and grossness, but they also were ABEC 1! I forwent putting the bearings back together, and ordered a new set of bearings in my last Wicked order. Since these are my outdoor skates (road skates mostly) I chose to not spend too much money on bearings (though I would have preferred ABEC 7 or 9) and got the ABEC number 5s for these. I think they will be alright. Haven't been able to skate outdoors lately. The snow has not stopped in days. The many feet of white and wind keep us shoveling. School was closed today. I sure hope that our scrimmage tomorrow isn't canceled again. Originally, the scrimmage was supposed to be February 25th, March 25th is the reschedule date. Fingers crossed we get to skate! Our skate days at the gym have been being changed and/or canceled, and the girls are just itching to hit each other.
