I can't even begin to tell you how much I enjoyed reading this article by Blockodile Dundee. Her guest blog at Derby Girls Blog (which is an awesome site to learn everything derby related) really hits home for any girl skating at any level on any team (not just derby, it applies to any sport, guys too). When learning a new activity or trying to get better at something, giving 100% (always) is the only way to stay at the top of your game, or others will progress while you are left in the dust.

It allows us to undermine ourselves, devalue our abilities, and become jealous of other people – or on the other end of the spectrum, get a big head and find a false sense of security (for you see, the person trying their hardest to improve will one day overtake you, if you are not doing the same). Comparing ourselves to others clouds our judgement of how much we are actually improving, and is certainly not a fair indicator of how far we’ve come..."
